The New Version Practical Audio-Visual Chinese is divided into Vol. 1, Vol. 2, Vol.3, Vol.4 and Vol. 5, a total of 5 volumes. Each volume consists of a textbook, a teacher’s manual, a student workbook, the MP3 materials, etc. It is developed by the Ministry of Education of R.O.C., it is considered to be the benchmark and the most comprehensive and practical material for Chinese language adult learners. The book is exclusively designed for non-Chinese speakers. It focuses on practicing everyday conversations by training the learners with the basic pronunciations. Through the dialogues in the textbooks, the learners will be guided to learn the frequently used vocabulary and grammar. Through the use of the MP3, the supplementary CD materials, the learners can reach their goals of Chinese proficiency in everyday life. All the vocabulary, characters and example sentences are denoted with Zhuyin, Pinyin and Tongyong Pinyin for a more advanced reading and identifying ability.

Due to the fast changing society, some contents of the “New Version Practical Audio-Visual Chinese” are not applicable to the updated needs in Chinese courses; therefore, the Ministry of Education of R.O.C. started the revision plan. The 3rd version is completed with the integration of the opinions from every aspect, the modification of out-of-date contents, the enhancement of the repetition rate of example sentences and characters, and the addition of brand new drawings and photos for efficient learning.
☉The Vol. 1 consists of 12 units offering PRONUNCIATION as warm-up lessons, making students understand the basic sound rules of the Chinese language. This volume focuses on training the beginners in the basic abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing, to make them express themselves in complete sentences with good comprehension and reach the purpose of basic communication in everyday life. There is a total of 461 Chinese characters and 49 grammar rules.
About the Author
National Taiwan Normal University Mandarin Training Center was founded in 1956 and is a government-recognized center for teaching Chinese as a foreign language and an extension program of the National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU). Since that time, it has grown to become the largest and best known institution in the Republic of China dedicated to the teaching of Chinese culture and Chinese as a second language. All levels of standard and Classical Chinese as well as Chinese culture are taught here.
