A total of twelve volumes customized for both local and overseas Mandarin schools. Fun, useful and practical, this series was designed to meet the needs of teachers and students of Mandarin in overseas Chinese elementary schools as well as enthusiasts and learners of Mandarin around the world.

Each volume contains a lesson book, a teacher's guide, and two exercise books A and B. There are also four volumes containing supporting CD-ROMs and practice tests.

To meet the practical needs for Mandarin in everyday use, we focused on useful daily expressions and practical usage. Each lesson is enriched by Chinese literature and culture in a fun and caring manner. This series uses Zhuyin Fuhao (Bopomofo), but to provide students with multifaceted approaches, we also supply references for Tongyong Pinyin, Hanyu Pinyin, and English translations. This series of twelve volumes can be used alternately according to one's specific needs. Volumes 1 to 8 are introductory. Volumes 9 to 12 can be used as learning supplements.

Practical Chinese has three sets of learning materials. It is currently the most authoritative, complete and frequently used text on Mandarin learning for overseas Chinese language schools. It includes a lesson book, a teacher's hand book and a student exercise book in each set. In addition, there are video and audio compact discs to supplement learning. All the vocabulary words and phrases in the text are complemented with Zhuyin and Hanyu Pinyin to provide students and teachers with more dynamic and multi-faceted learning and teaching choices.

The first volume contains 25 lessons. They concentrate on helping students learn the basic Mandarin pronunciation method and the most commonly used Chinese characters; thus helping to quickly achieve basic language abilities in Mandarin.

The second volume contains 28 lessons. They focus on college activities and daily conversation, introducing the dissimilarities of each country's culture, and also their society, history, geography, etc. Grammar structure is introduced in situations where certain sentences are used. By referring to short essays of various writing styles, the student can learn to identify different Chinese handwriting techniques.

The third volume contains 20 lessons. They introduce the distinctive elements in Chinese culture and customs mainly through various theatrical performances, descriptive writings, and thematic writings about Chinese culture, traditional theatrical performances, Chinese characters, medicine, science, environment, money spending, recreation, etc. Their main purpose is to help elevate the students' ability on discussing such topics.
